Are you prepared for a big freeze? Well, you should be as the mobile home plumbing is quite susceptible to the severities of winter. Now, you might wonder why that is so. Actually, most of your pipe system is unprotected beneath your house structure. No one would really love to spend huge amounts on repairing burst, cracked or frozen pipes due to improper protection in extreme freezes, so you are to winterize your mobile home plumbing.

Now how to winterize? Well, follow some basic guidelines which would solve your problem and keep your costs down. First of all, try to prepare for your winterizing plan before winters. It is best to complete it by fall. If you face any problem in affording this winterizing process, you are to call your local department of human services or any local program for financial assistance. Sometimes, they can even provide these services for free, but I guess you are required to meet some financial guidelines.

For starting your winterizing process, you need to first check if there is any heat tape on the pipes that lie beneath you mobile home. In case you find it, look for any damages or improper wrapping. Damage could even be caused by rodents or some insects that nibble away at the heat tape. In case you do not find it, you have to install them. If you have a latest mobile home, it is quite possible that an outlet would be installed underneath your home. These outlets make it easier to install the heat tape on the pipes. But if you have a traditional, old fashioned mobile home, you would unfortunately work a bit harder. You would have to run an insulated extension cable to the nearest outlet available so that you can operate the heat tape.

For an extra protection against very extreme winters, you might want to install foam board installation on the bordering. Some of you might be worried about how ugly it will look. Well, for you then, you can even place this on the inner side of the skirting. You would require a measuring tape for this purpose, as you would need to measure the height and the width of the skirting panel, so that you can work out how much foam board insulation you would require.

Now, fetch your hacksaw. Use it to make appropriate pieces of the foam board piece. It does not have to be really perfect looking. Now get your duct tape and stick the foam board to the skirting panel. Although you might have to spend a lot of time but it's worth it. You need to make sure which side of your home is struck the most by the rough winds. On this side of your home, you can stack the straw bales to protect the walls from the cold winds. In case you have a water pump in your residential area, you should secure it against these winds too, as water can freeze inside it and you might have to spend loads of money to get it functional again. And here we come to the end of the winterizing process!
