Right off of I-64 near the Power Plant is Bluebird Gap Farm, a Hampton City -run park. A working farm, it is loads of fun for kids with programs, playground & picnic area. If it’s warm, why not grab a sandwich & takewith? A great way to let your little girl expend some energy.

There is also a cafe in there- downtown Hampton doesn’t have too many great places to eat for kids. You can get a nice pub food /sandwiches at Taphouse on Queens Way, if you like that or there is a Burger King down the street towards Hampton U. – From there, you can get right on to go to the tunnel- you didn’t say where you were coming from.

Are there any good places in ohio (preferably southern) to buy Asian food ingredients?
I know about Jungle Jim’s but do they have a lot of Asian foods? I need things like curry mix, sushi rice, and some other supplies not in all grocery stores.

I live in Dayton, so hopefully this will help you out.

Jungle Jims is wonderful – you will find everything that you mentioned there. They have each aisle marked according to countries. They have Vietnamese, Thailand, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian. They have a large selection of Asian fruits and vegetables.

However there are many small grocers here in Dayton – Indian, Japanese, Korean (there are actually 4 that I go to), Japanese, and just 2 that are marked Asian that carry Chinese & Vietnamese items.

You can send me message if you are wanting directions to any one in particular.

  7. QUESTION:
Where can I buy buckwheat grains in Cincinnati area?
Where can I buy buckwheat grains in Cincinnati area? I like porage made with buckwheat grains. Stores like Jungle Jims, Wallmart and Kroger are missing this one.

    • ANSWER:
I’m surprised some place like Jungle Jim’s doesn’t carry that….hmmm.

You might try the Whole Foods in Mason: 5805 Deerfield Boulevard
Or there is another one in Cincinnati (although I’ve not been to this one): 2693 Edmondson Road

Or you also might want to try some smaller natural food stores: unfortunately the only one I’ve really been to is the Clifton Natural Food Store on McMillan by UC- 169 West McMillan Street, they might have something like that.

If I were you, I’d call these places first and ask them before you drive all over the city and find that they don’t carry what you are looking for.

I actually think though, if you go to the customer service desk at Jungle Jim’s and request an item…they will order some in. But I’d ask first…the worst they can do is say ‘No’.

  8. QUESTION:
How often does a kid get badly injured?
My 7 yr old daughter’s friend fell from the top of a jungle jim/climbing frame and fell unconcious. She’s now in hospital in intensive care. How could she have possibly fallen this badly? The ground was made of that soft kind of “tar”, the flooring that cushions your fall. How often do these accidents happen? I’m very afraid and have stopped my 7 yo going up the jungle jim.

    • ANSWER:
Let her go on the jungle gym. Millions of people have died in car accidents, have you stopped getting into cars? Don’t teach your child to be afraid of everything.

It depends on the kid. Some kids are fearless and do crazy things.

  9. QUESTION:
Good places to take kids for their birthday in the Seattle area?
Pizza & Pipes and Jungle Jim’s no longer exist. Looking for places similar, safe, and FUN!
Probably should have been more specific…someplace for a 7 year old.

    • ANSWER:
Depending on where exactly you are, there are a number of fun “activity center” type places with arcades, rides, and other such stuff.

In downtown, the Seattle Center has the Fun Forest Amusement Park which has a whole host of kiddie rides for someone your child’s age. There are mini-bumper cars, car rides, the Rainbow Chaser (mini-roller coaster that’s pretty exciting!), and other fun rides, as well as skill-based games, a climbing wall, video games, indoor mini-golf, and a small laser tag.

To the north of Seattle in Edmonds, on 99 and 220th is Funtasia. That place is pretty fun. They have bumper cars, batting cages, go-karts, arcades, games that give you tickets you exchange for prizes, miniature golf, a better laser tag, bumper boats, and such.

To the south close to Southcenter Mall is the Family Fun Center. They offer much of the same in the way of activities, with go-karts, a couple rides, arcades, and such and are comparable to Funtasia, only to the south.

Gameworks I think is geared a bit towards an older crowd than 7-year olds, but is right downtown on 7th.

There are any number of bowling alleys that could be fun, depending on exactly where you are and how far you’ll go. Also, skating rinks are really fun. I know Skate King in Bellevue is pretty fun and offers roller skates!

  12. QUESTION:
Where can I find Cheerwine in Louisville, Ky?
Cheerwine is my favorite soda, but I can’t find it anywhere. The first time I had was at a charity thing I was helping at and they let me take the rest home! It is so good and I love cherry anything. I found it at this international grocery store called Jungle Jims outside of Cincinatti but that is a far drive just for soda, but that place has everything. If anyone has any tips or can find a distributor closer than cincinatti that would be awesome!

    • ANSWER:
Cheerwine is available in most of the southeastern United States, from West Virginia south to Georgia, but is better known and has been a longtime favorite in the Carolinas and Virginia. It is famous in Charleston, South Carolina and along the Carolina coast. Other spots to find Cheerwine are the many “specialty soda” stores throughout the country, such as The Fondren Beverage Emporium in Jackson, Mississippi. In April of 2005, other regions of the United States began to bottle Cheerwine; mainly through Pepsi distributors. The first area outside the traditional market area was Quincy, Illinois. Other areas added recently include Burlington, Iowa; Duluth, Minnesota; Chattanooga, Tennessee (in certain stores); Tulsa, Oklahoma; Topeka, Kansas; Rolla, Missouri; and the University Of Nebraska-Lincoln, in Nebraska. It can be found in vending machines in eastern Ohio and in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Indiana, and in some restaurants in San Francisco, California.

However, these recent moves to expand outside of the southeast are not new. In the 1970s Cheerwine could be found in the Chicago area, for example.

  14. QUESTION:
Can someone help me with this trigonometry / algebra problem?
Jungle Jim sees a signal on the top of an escarpment (a tall cliff) at an angle of elevation of 10 degrees. Later, after moving 1000 meters, the angle of elevation is 32.5 degrees. How tall is the escarpment?
I’ve tried to figure the question out a few ways with no luck. What would be the equation I would use with my scientific calculator??? This is the last question I have to do and have successfully done the rest on my own. Can anyone help?

    • ANSWER:
Start by drawing a picture of this. Draw a right triangle. I put the right angle at the bottom left. Then draw an arbitrary line from the upper left vertex down to the base. This separtes the large right triangle into a smaller right triangle and what I will call the “outer triangle.” This gives you the 1000 Jim moved; it’s to the right of where the line intersects the base. I called this leg a. I drew in the angles I was given, and labeled all of the line segments. The hypotenuse of the large right triangle is b, the hypotenuse of the smaller right triangle (also the only unlabeled leg of the outer triangle) is c, and the vertical leg of the right triangle is d. d is the height of the escarpment. I named the angles after the sides they face. So the 10 degree angle is C, the 32.5 degree angle is D, and angle A is opposite leg a, and is an acute angle in the outer triangle. Since I was given angle D, I could find its supplement, B, which is an obtuse angle in the outer triangle, opposite leg b. B = 180 – D = 180 – 32.5 = 147.5. Since the sum of angles in a triangle is 180, and I know C and B, I can also find A = 180 – B – C = 180 – 147.5 – 10 = 22.5.

Now that I know every angle in the outer triangle and the length of one leg, a, I can use the law of sines. The law of sines says that a / sin(A) = b / sin(B). Rearranging, b = a*sin(B) / sin(A) = 1000*sin(147.5) / sin(22.5). Now look at the larger right triangle. You know the length of the hypotenuse, b, and you know the angle C opposite the unknown d (I called it C because it is also opposite leg c in the outer triangle.). By trigonometry, d = b*sin(C) = b*sin(10), where we use b from above.

I’m only 17 and I want to start cooking, especially with hispanic food, so what would be an easy starter for me?

btw, getting special foreign ingredients is not a problem for me, since there is a huge international store near me called Jungle Jim’s.

    • ANSWER:
This is so good, with beans and rice, and fresh warm tortillas, mmmm.

      Carne Deshebrada en Salsa Roja

In Guadalajara, this is not an uncommon breakfast, served with warm tortillas and sometimes rice and beans—since it is tequila country, we can only imagine that it’s probably an excellent hangover remedy—but it’s definitely flavorful enough to be a big hit at dinnertime, too. We particularly like the richness and suppleness of skirt steak, but any cut of beef with a pronounced grain, like flank or brisket, will do.

      Ingredients:

      Beef:

      3 lb skirt steak
      1 white onion, quartered
      3 garlic cloves
2 Turkish bay leaves or 1 California
      1/4 tsp black peppercorns
      3 whole allspice
      1 whole clove

      Sauce:

3/4 lb tomatoes (2 to 3 medium), quartered
      3 Tbsp vegetable oil, divided
3 oz dried guajillo chiles, wiped clean
      1/4 tsp black peppercorns
      1/4 tsp cumin seeds
      3 whole allspice
      1 whole clove
      1/2 cup chopped white onion
      3 large garlic cloves
3 to 5 dried chiles de árbol, wiped clean, stemmed, and seeded, or 1/2 tsp hot red-pepper flakes

Accompaniments: hot corn tortillas or rice; cooked black beans (rinsed and drained if canned); chopped white onion; lime wedges

      Equipment: an electric coffee/spice grinder

      Preparation:

      Beef:
Put all beef ingredients in a 5- to 6-qt heavy pot with 1 tsp salt and enough water (about 2 qt) to cover beef. Simmer, partially covered, skimming foam and adding more hot water if necessary to keep beef covered, until tender, about 2 hours.

Remove beef and shred (once cool).

Strain broth through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding solids, and skim off fat.

      Sauce:
      Preheat broiler.

Toss tomatoes with 1 Tbsp oil in a 4-sided sheet pan. Broil 3 to 4 inches from heat until softened and charred, 10 to 12 minutes.

Slit guajillo chiles lengthwise, then stem and seed. Heat a dry heavy medium skillet (not nonstick) over medium heat until hot, then toast chiles in 2 batches, opened flat, turning and pressing with tongs, until more pliable and slightly changed in color, about 30 seconds per batch. Transfer to a bowl and soak in hot water to cover until softened, 20 to 30 minutes.

Toast peppercorns, cumin seeds, allspice, and clove in hot skillet over medium heat, stirring constantly, until fragrant and a shade darker, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Transfer to a blender.

Drain soaked chiles and purée in blender with toasted spices, broiled tomatoes, onion, garlic, 3 chiles de árbol, 2 cups broth, and 1 tsp salt until smooth, about 2 minutes. For a spicier sauce, add remaining 2 chiles de árbol and purée again.

Heat remaining 2 Tbsp oil in cleaned pot over medium-high heat until it shimmers, then slowly add sauce, stirring (it will spatter), and simmer, stirring frequently, 5 minutes. Add beef and 1 cup broth (reserve remainder for another use) and cook over medium-low heat, stirring, until meat is heated through, about 5 minutes. Makes 8 (about 20 tacos) servings

Note: Beef can be cooked and shredded 2 days ahead, then chilled in strained broth (skim off solidified fat). Reheat before using.

specifically the more expensive kind of blue mountain. I think its called the golfer’s collection that sells for like .95… i think.

    • ANSWER:

  22. QUESTION:
Among all active players, whom do you see becoming a future MLB commentator/analyst?
Without hesitation, I would go with Drew Storen, the son of a sports radio host.

Whenever you see Storen do interviews, he’s always well-spoken, well-mannered, and articulate. He’s also a regular on The Jungle with Jim Rome, so I always listen when he’s on.
David Ortiz being an analyst? That’s hilarious. I could hardly understand what he says.

    • ANSWER:
I can definitely see Jimmy Rollins being one. He’s obviously an extremely talented player and has a ton of knowledge about baseball, plus he’s got a good sense of humor and is just likable.

I don’t think Jeter will become an actual broadcaster, but I think he will definitely do some games (like maybe pop in for a few Yankee games or the All-star game).

I can see Mark Buehrle becoming one. He’s a real smart pitcher and a likeable guy. He’s not afraid to speak his opinions, too (he owns three dogs and is involved in community affairs with stray and injured dogs, and he once said in an interview “…. and I know it’s bad to say, but there were times where we hope [Michael Vick] gets hurt. … Everything you’ve done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys.” Maybe a bit out of line, but I agree)

Nick Swisher will probably get an opportunity somewhere.

I don’t know how outspoken they are, but Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Paul Konerko, Chipper Jones, Tim Wakefield, and Jim Thome seem like the type of guys that would become announcers or color commentators.

  23. QUESTION:

-The scene where Eion Bailey gets shot in the chest and the neck by harpoons while he shuts off the water?

-The scene where Patricia Velasquez bleeds and burns to death on a pier after smoking an acid-laced cigarette while the team looks on in horror?

-The scene where Kathryn Morris, L.L. Cool J., and Johnny Lee Miller hear a strange voice over the loudspeaker (presumably the killer’s voice) and follow the voice within areas of the remote island, and into a basement, where the wizard of oz behind the curtain turns out to be Val Kilmer’s dead gruesome body hangs by sharp hooks, dead security guards stabbed to death with throats slit, and a video shown with him injured and tortured (he is not the killer). Val on the screen confronts somebody on the video saying “Finish it you child!”, and a person’s dark clothed back blocks the screen, a knife swishing noise, and the sound of Val screaming as the screen shuts off, and then Val’s body moving around under control like a puppet with music and his skin ripping from the hooks. That scene?

-The scene where Clifton Collins, Jr. fires his gun in the elevator when a figure approaches which explodes and backfires killing him instantly leaving large pools of blood?

-The scene where L.L. Cool J. attacks Kathryn Morris and Johnny Lee Miller and L.L. fight?

Very conscientious of others and you evaluate and analyze how your actions and others actions are effected by each other. This signifies you are on your way to being emotional and intellectually mature. You are learning (and a caring person)
the water is your heart and the house is your mind

  29. QUESTION:
can you give examples of how blacks were disenfranchised during the 1800s?
i obviously know about slavery and segregation (Jim Crow) laws….but how else? can you elaborate?

i know mostly of the 60s civil rights movement but not much from the 1800s aside from slavery and not allowing blacks to vote.

    • ANSWER:
The black Africans were living in the jungles foraging and hunting. When Southern United States of American citizens brought them here to work in the fields, their standard of living was upgraded 99 percent. Everything was more backward then. The white plantation owned the slaves as property because that was legal then and the way things were done. The employers fed, clothed, housed, and cared for their slaves. Although the slaves were not allowed allowed to vote (as was also the case for all women because neither owned land), they were better off here than where they came from. After the abolition of slavery, many slaves remained with their employers because they didn’t have any place else to go and they wanted to remain where they had a job, food, housing, clothing, and care.

  38. QUESTION:
I am in the 9th grade and want to know if there is any job that pays well and is related to my descriptions?
I wish to work with animals but I would like to discover new animals, record them, study them, and care for them. I like exotic animals and wish to visit exotic places like the Amazon Jungle, but I wish to be able to come home whenever I need to. I love caring for animals and discovering them but I do not like injecting needles or operating on them very much. I would rather study and have daily contact with animals. Please help me find my future job! Thank you very much!

    • ANSWER:
Hi I suggest that you visit with a biologist and a zoologist at your local university to get a feel for possible types of job that you might be interested in. I regret not going after a career in biology caring for aquariums like the ones at sea world. It takes a lot of biology and chemistry to make shure that the water and conditions for the animals and plants are perfect. I suspect that you would get a lot more out of talking to researchers at your local university. They also have field trips and you may be able to get permission to go along on these trips. I did this as a high school student, and went to the Bodega Bay Marine Labs with Sierra Jr College, in California. I really enjoyed the trip and I found a very rare sponge in a tide pool. If you go to the ocean in the summer time be shure to go to the water after dark. Lots of times any movement in the water will cause the plankton to glow. I spent about 2 hours trying to catch a piece of plankton on my hand so I could see what was glowing- when I did it was too small to see.

      Best Regards

      Jim

  39. QUESTION:
Jim Jones, Jonestown Massacre: Whats your thoughts or opinions on this horrible tragedy?
Jim Jones was a cult leader of the “Peoples Temple” in Guyana, who created an act of suicide, though thought by the members back then and Jim Jones, a “revolutionary suicide.” The suicide consisted of a mixture of Kool-Aid and poisons: Potassium Cyanide and Potassium Chloride. Others had syringes injected in them who refused.

What do you think about this mass suicide today?

    • ANSWER:
Its was sad then and its sad now. For the life of me i dont see how people could just up and follow someone to the jungle whose calling himself God let him rule there lives and then tell them to kill themselve and they comply. I know some were murdered but most of them willingly drank the koolaid not to mention those poor kids.

  40. QUESTION:

Both look equally fun, but I figured it would be better to get other peoples opinions. Both of the parks have most of the same stuff, but I never know.

Which park is more fun, Midway Speedway Park or Jungle Jim’s?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
I haven’t been to either in a few years, but Jungle Jim’s had more stuff to do back when I lived down there.

  41. QUESTION:
Which animal would be most likely to win if they were forced to meet, a bear or a lion?
I know the lion is the king of the jungle, and the bear is the king of it’s habitat, and they’re both very ferocious animals, so which animal would be most likely to prevail in a fight, a grizzly bear to be more specific or a lion? I’m asking this question because for some reason I just couldn’t decide on which animal was stronger, yeah a bear is larger but the lion is an extremely vicious animal, so I wondered. Which animal do you think would win? I know this sounds like a childish question, but I was just curious.

    • ANSWER:
Lion. Though some species of bear are heavier than lions, much of that weight comes from the large, heavy bones and considerable amount of body-fat. By contrast, a lion’s skeleton is quite small given the size of the animal – much of its size comes from its enormous musculature. They have evolved to kill prey considerably larger than themselves, and are swifter and more agile than bears. They have stronger jaws, larger canine teeth, and eighteen razor-sharp claws (bears’ claws are non-rectractile, and therefore blunt from constant contact with the ground). The lion would leap onto the bear’s back, clinging on with its claws, and drag the bear to the ground, where a throat-bite would be employed to kill it.

In response to Judah’s answer, whilst female lions do most of the hunting for the pride, males DO hunt – they will join the lionesses now and then, and young males who have left their natal pride but not yet taken over one of their own have no choice but to hunt for themselves. Also, male lions are much larger and stronger than females, giving them the edge over the lionesses in any fight.

In response to Jim’s answer, there is only one species of lion (Panthera leo). There are various subspecies, including the Masai lion, Kruger lion, Barbary lion and Asiatic lion, but they are all the same species. There are also 8 species of bear, not 7 – polar bear, brown bear, American black bear, Asiatic black bear (also called the moon bear), giant panda, sun bear, sloth bear and spectacled bear. The grizzly bear is a subspecies of brown bear.

What’s your theory about what happened to Jim Jones?
What’s your theory about what happened to Jim Jones?
What’s your theory about what happened to Jim Jones?
Back in 1978 Jim Jones was the leader of a group known as “The People’s Temple” that was founded in the USA but eventually moved to Northern Guyana. The group settled in a jungle and called their communal village “Jonestown”. As a result of a investigation conducted by USA authorities, Jones lead their followers to a mass suicide. Official reports said that 913 of the 1100 people at “Jonestown” at the time were murdered or committed mass suicide, 276 of them were children. It’s has been report that Jones shot himself.

    • ANSWER:
I think it is a combination of a cult with an unstable leader and the US Govt. messing with things they shouldn’t be.

The US Govt. had no business or right to go to Africa and do anything over there.

      It’s not our country.

They should have gone to the South American authorities and let them handle the situation.

  47. QUESTION:
What is jonestown and whats so scary about it?
I heard that people were dying in a town of jonestown. i don’t get it. why did they die. could any1 explain jonestown massacre and why it was scary. i heard people would suicide themselves and run away in a jungle.but y though. just a reminder it was during the 1970( I think)

    • ANSWER:
I don’t know about scary, but it was pretty messed up deal. Jonestown was a town in Guyana in South America where a cult lead by Jim Jones committed mass suicide. A total of 900+ people drank cyanide laced cool-aid and died. Sounds to me it was more like mass murder by Jim Jones or whoever, but then again it was a cult. The event happened in the 70s, and it was pretty shocking. To this day, when someone says “Don’t drink the Kool-aid!” they are referring to the Jonestown massacre. It mostly means, “don’t commit suicide(like your job, or reputation wise)” or “don’t blindly follow the leader ( to your doom)”

  48. QUESTION:

  49. QUESTION:
Can anybody tell me the name of the Adventure site in Titusville, Florida named for Jungle Jim?
I believe it was associated with Johnny Weismuleler in the 60’s and early 70’s

    • ANSWER:
Early in 1969, an idea for franchising that Johnny had been musing about for several years began to take shape. He named it Jungle Hut, Inc. He hoped to branch out into four areas: the Jungle Hut, limited menu, Restaurants, Johnny Weissmuller’s American Natural Food Stores, Johnny Weissmuller’s Safari Hut Gift Shops and Johnny Weissmuller’s Ungawa Club Lounges. But aside from a few Health Food Stores in cities like Los Angeles, St. Louis and Chicago, the Corporation never really got off the ground.

He considered another venture, Tropical Wonderland, replete with snake farm, petting zoo, and a “Loin Cloth” clothes store, in Titusville, Florida, but it too was never to be.

  50. QUESTION:
Childrens “Playland” in or near north suburbs of Chicago?
I am looking for a childrens playland in or on the north side of chicago. Looking for a place with lots on things to jump and climb on, think, very large McDonalds playland. No museums or learning type places, she’s not interested, just wants to climb and play. Is there a Jungle Jim’s in Des Plaines? Saw it online, but phone number connects to a different business. • ANSWER:
There is a place that just opened a few months ago called “Monkey Island” located in Melrose Park. It is huge and has tons of inflatables. An indoor playland. There is different types for the kids to jump around on, even an inflatable soccer field. This is all indoors and they have snacks and next door to that, they have laser tag and arcade games.

I brought my son there and his loves it. I can’t remember the website, but you can call information.

There is also a place called “Safari Land” which has rides similar to Jungle Jim’s and arcade games with bowling lanes as well. Located in Addison or Elmhurst.
